Encoding terahertz holographic bits with a computer-generated 3D-printed phase plate

open access: yesScientific Reports
A sub-terahertz holographic image of a two-dimensional 576-bit data code is produced using a diffractive phase-plate element. The phase plate was designed using a modified Gerchberg-Saxton iterative algorithm to encode a focused image of the data code ...

α-catenin switches between a slip and an asymmetric catch bond with F-actin to cooperatively regulate cell junction fluidity

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
By using laser tweezers, the authors show that a single α-catenin molecule does not resist force on F-actin. However, clustering of multiple molecules and force applied toward F-actin pointed end engage a molecular switch in α-catenin, which unfolds and ...

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Highly inclined light sheet allows volumetric super-resolution imaging of efflux pumps distribution in bacterial biofilms

open access: yesScientific Reports
Bacterial biofilms are highly complex communities in which isogenic bacteria display different gene expression patterns and organize in a three-dimensional mesh gaining enhanced resistance to biocides.

External-Cavity Quantum Cascade Laser-Based Gas Sensor for Sulfur Hexafluoride Detection

open access: yesChemosensors, 2022
The external-cavity quantum cascade laser (ECQCL) is an ideal mid-infrared (MIR) spectral light source for determining large molecular-absorption spectral features with broad transition bands.

In-line NIR spectroscopy for the understanding of polymer-drug interaction during pharmaceutical hot-melt extrusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The aim was to evaluate near-infrared spectroscopy for the in-line determination of the drug concentration, the polymer-drug solid-state behaviour and molecular interactions during hot-melt extrusion.

Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

Computational conjugate adaptive optics microscopy for longitudinal through-skull imaging of cortical myelin

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The authors realize longitudinal deep-brain imaging through an intact mouse skull by constructing a high-speed reflection matrix microscope at 1.3 µm wavelength and developing a computational conjugate adaptive optics algorithm eliminating skull ...

Topics in Meson Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this mini-review I discuss three topics in meson spectroscopy. The production of heavy quarkonium states, S-wave scattering below 1 GeV, and exotic hybrid meson production. This is not intended to be a comprehensive review, just an overview of several

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.
