Effect of peroxides on spermine transport in rat brain and liver mitochondria. [PDF]
The polyamine spermine is transported into the matrix of various types of mitochondria by a specific uniporter system identified as a protein channel. This mechanism is regulated by the membrane potential; other regulatory effectors are unknown.

ABSTRACT Biogenic amines, primarily histamine, cadaverine, and putrescine, are important indicators of microbial spoilage and potential health risks. This review summarizes established and novel analytical methods for quantitatively determining biogenic amines in fish and fish products, along with their limits of detection in these complex matrices ...

Polyamine stress at high pH in
Background Polyamines such as spermine and spermidine are required for growth of Escherichia coli; they interact with nucleic acids, and they bind to ribosomes. Polyamines block porins and decrease membrane permeability, activities that may protect cells

ABSTRACT A key challenge for the genetic improvement of canola (Brassica napus), one of the world's most important oilseeds, is the limited natural variation for commercially important traits. The creation of new variation is hindered by the lack of functional knowledge about genes controlling these traits.

A role for antizyme inhibitor 2 in the biosynthesis and content of serotonin and histamine in mouse mast cells [PDF]
Polyamines (putrescine, spermidine and spermine; PAs) are essential for the majority of living cells. Antizymes and antizyme inhibitors are key regulatory proteins of PA levels by affecting ornithine decarboxylase and PA uptake.

Spermine binding to liver mitochondria
Non-equilibrium binding of spermine to mitochondrial membranes is studied in rat liver mitochondria by applying a new thermodynamic treatment of ligand-receptor interactions (Di Noto, V., Dalla Via, L., Toninello, A. and Vidali, M. (1996) Macromol. Theory Simul. 5, 165-181).

Lack of Influence of Spermine or Diet on Calf Spermine Oxidase Formation
Abstract Studies were conducted to ascertain the changes in blood plasma spermine oxidase activity in the young dairy calf as the animal developed. Results show that there is a steady increase in plasma spermine oxidase activity up until 40-60 days of age with no further increase.
