ABSTRACT Features of the reproductive organs, such as the number of testicular follicles, testis colour and the morphology of the glands, can be used as systematic characters. For this purpose, this paper was the first description of the male reproductive system anatomy and histology of Hypera postica (Gyllenhal, 1813) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a ...

Multiple Roles of Protamine Kinase SRPK1 and Phosphatase PP1γ in Sperm Development
ABSTRACT Protein phosphorylation regulates key events of male germ cell differentiation. In the testis, SRPK1 and PP1γ are involved in protamine phosphorylation and dephosphorylation, respectively, and their deregulation is linked to defective chromatin structure and male infertility.

SPERMIOGENESIS IN CANCER CRABS [PDF]
Spermiogenesis in Cancer crabs was studied by light and electron microscopy. The sperm are aflagellate, and when mature consist primarily of a spherical acrosome surrounded by the nucleus with its short radiating arms. The acrosome forms by a coalescence of periodic acid-Schiff-positive (PAS-positive) vesicles.

Microtubule Inner Protein CFAP77 Contributes to Sperm Motility and Male Fertility in Mice
ABSTRACT Background Sperm motility is essential for male fertility, and its regulation is dependent on the structural integrity of the axoneme. The axoneme consists of a conserved “9+2” microtubule arrangement and is supported by microtubule inner proteins. However, the functional significance of many microtubule inner proteins remains unclear.

Ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and the spermatozoon in cyclophyllidean cestodes [PDF]
The usefulness of the ultrastructural characters of spermiogenesis and of the spermatozoon in the interpretation of relationships in the Platyhelminthes has been widely demonstrated.

Mechanisms of spermiogenesis and spermiation and how they are disturbed [PDF]
Haploid round spermatids undergo a remarkable transformation during spermiogenesis. The nucleus polarizes to one side of the cell as the nucleus condenses and elongates, and the microtubule-based manchette sculpts the nucleus into its species-specific ...

SOX30 Governs Synaptonemal Complex Assembly and Homologous Recombination in Male Meiosis
The transcription factor SOX30 directly binds promoter regions of SYCE1 and SYCE2 to mediate their transcriptional activation, thereby enabling proper assembly of central elements within the synaptonemal complex. Structural destabilisation of the synaptonemal complex in Sox30 KK spermatocytes triggers synaptic discontinuity, impairs homologous ...
