Influence of Cosolvents on the Pressure Stability of Human Serum Albumin

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), EarlyView.
Human serum albumin is able to bind various hydrophobic substances and drugs. To investigate this interaction, the protein structure is analyzed using small‐angle X‐ray scattering under high hydrostatic pressure. The resulting radius of gyration (see picture) indicates that hydrophobic substances influence the pressure stability of HSA differently ...

UGV‐Based Precision Spraying System for Chemical Apple Blossom Thinning on Trellis Trained Canopies

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Blossom thinning is one of the key steps in apple crop load management that improves the quality of apples, reduces stress on the trees, and avoids the likelihood of biennial bearing. Conventional chemical blossom thinning such as air‐blast spraying can lead to excessive use of chemical thinner to ensure full coverage, which can also cause ...

Charge Capacitive Signatures at the Interface of E. coli/MOF Biohybrids to Create a Live Cell Biocapacitor

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A novel biointerfacial strategy to investigate directional charge injection from a non‐exoelectrogenic living microbe to an electrode surface using a porous metal–organic framework (MOF) is revealed. The redox nature of MOF catalyzes the microbe's exoelectrogenic activity, generating distinct charge capacitive signatures at the biotic–abiotic interface.

Density, Surface Tension, and Viscosity of Molten Ni‐Based Superalloys Using the Maximum Bubble Pressure and Oscillating Crucible Methods

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The density and surface tension of Ni‐based superalloys are measured using the maximum bubble pressure method to determine viscosity. The viscosity is evaluated using the oscillating crucible method. The fitting equations of the molten Ni‐based superalloys are as follows. 1) Alloy 65: ln(η [mPa s])=6569×(1θ [K])−1.844$$ \mathrm{ln}(\eta  [\

Congenital hypoplasia of the nodulus and ventral uvula of the cerebellum in a Norfolk Terrier

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract This case report describes a congenital hypoplasia of the nodulus and uvula of the cerebellum in an 8‐month‐old Norfolk Terrier with an episodic, positioning head tilt and mild vestibular ataxia. Neurological examination revealed a head tilt that changed direction with head movement.

The agency of a marmalade machine: Gender, class and mechanical gadgets in the British Kitchen, c.1870–1938

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
Abstract This article explores the marmalade machine, a mechanical device designed to slice orange peel. These niche objects were manufactured between roughly 1870 and 1938 in Britain. As a so‐called ‘labour‐saving’ gadget, the marmalade machine sliced orange peel quickly and effectively, removing the tedious process of slicing orange peel by hand ...

EntoSieve: Automated Size‐Sorting of Insect Bulk Samples to Aid Accurate Megabarcoding and Metabarcoding

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Widespread insect decline necessitates the development and use of standardized protocols for regular monitoring. These methods have to be rapid, efficient and cost‐effective to allow for large‐scale implementation. Many insect sampling and molecular methods have been developed.
