Optimal Checkpoint Interval with Availability as an Objective Function [PDF]
We present a simplified derivation of the optimal checkpoint interval in Young_1974 [1]. The optimal checkpoint interval derivation in [1] is based on minimizing the total lost time as an objective-function. Lost time is a function of checkpoint interval, checkpoint save time, and average failure time.

Interactions between N-terminal Modules in MPS1 Enable Spindle Checkpoint Silencing
Summary: Faithful chromosome segregation relies on the ability of the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) to delay anaphase onset until chromosomes are attached to the mitotic spindle via their kinetochores.

Universal Checkpointing: Efficient and Flexible Checkpointing for Large Scale Distributed Training [PDF]
Existing checkpointing approaches seem ill-suited for distributed training even though hardware limitations make model parallelism, i.e., sharding model state across multiple accelerators, a requirement for model scaling. Consolidating distributed model state into a single checkpoint unacceptably slows down training, and is impractical at extreme ...
