Differentiation of dendrites and the analysis of spine- like structures on Lobula Plate Tangential Cells in Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The development of dendrites leads to the establishment of cell-type specific morphology of dendritic trees that eventually determines the way in which synaptic information is processed within the nervous system. The aim of this study was to investigate

Ewing Sarcoma in Infants and Children Under 2 Years of Age: A French Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ewing sarcoma, the second most common primary bone cancer in children, requires intensive treatment that may lead to significant long‐term sequelae, particularly in infants. We retrospectively analyzed data from 1621 French patients treated between 1988 and 2015 within the EW88/93/97 or EE99 trials, focusing on 17 infants diagnosed before 24 ...

Contribution of individual excitatory synapses on dendritic spines to electrical signaling

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
Dendritic spines, ∼1 μm protrusions from neuronal dendrites that receive most of the excitatory synaptic inputs in the mammalian brain, are widely considered the elementary computational units in the nervous system.

Long-term adult human brain slice cultures as a model system to study human CNS circuitry and disease

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Most of our knowledge on human CNS circuitry and related disorders originates from model organisms. How well such data translate to the human CNS remains largely to be determined. Human brain slice cultures derived from neurosurgical resections may offer

Combined DiI and Antibody Labeling Reveals Complex Dysgenesis of Hippocampal Dendritic Spines in a Mouse Model of Fragile X Syndrome

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Structural, functional, and molecular alterations in excitatory spines are a common hallmark of many neurodevelopmental disorders including intellectual disability and autism.

Provider and Parent Perspectives on Prioritizing the “Asking and Monitoring” Pediatric Cancer Psychosocial Standards of Care

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The Standards for Psychosocial Care for Children with Cancer and Their Families (“Standards”) are evidence‐based guidelines for psychosocial care in pediatric oncology. Care related to the three “Asking and Monitoring” Standards—Assessment of Psychosocial Needs, Assessment of Financial Needs, and Monitoring Neurocognitive Problems ...

Chemical and isotope composition of fossil chaetognath spines and conodonts from Poland, Spitsbergen and Sweden, and chemical composition of modern chaetognath spines

open access: yes, 2020
This dataset contains chemical data from fossil chaetognath spines (Phakelodus) and conodonts (Cordylodus, Palmatolepis, Neospathodus) measured using an electron ...

Electrical and Ca2+ signaling in dendritic spines of substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Little is known about the density and function of dendritic spines on midbrain dopamine neurons, or the relative contribution of spine and shaft synapses to excitability.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Clustered synapses develop in distinct dendritic domains in visual cortex before eye opening

open access: yeseLife
Synaptic inputs to cortical neurons are highly structured in adult sensory systems, such that neighboring synapses along dendrites are activated by similar stimuli.
