TrkB expression and Phospho-ERK activation by brain-derived neurotrophic factor in rat spinothalamic tract neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a neurotrophin implicated in the phenomena of synaptic plasticity in the adult. It is found in terminals of nociceptive primary afferents.

Brown-Séquard syndrome due to cervical disc herniation

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Medicina Militar, 2022
Introduction: Brown-Séquard syndrome accounts for 1 to 4 % of all spinal cord injuries, very infrequent. It involves the lateral half of the spinal cord and the structures and/or functions of the dorsal segment, the corticospinal tract and the ...

Integrating yoga into anatomy and clinical medicine education: A holistic approach to learning

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 19, Issue 7, Page 1097-1109, July 2026.
Abstract Anatomical knowledge is fundamental for success in clinical settings. Unfortunately, anatomy education within professional health programs has experienced a continual decrease in contact hours and curricular content over the previous two decades, leading to deficits and potential gaps in anatomical science knowledge.

Supraspinal Circuit Mechanisms Underlying Itch Processing

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 7, July 2026.
Peripheral pruriceptive signals ascend from the spinal cord to the brainstem, thalamus, and cortex to encode the sensory features of itch. Parallel projections to limbic and basal ganglia circuits mediate affective and motivational components, including aversion and scratching urge.

Neuroimaging Correlates of Post‐Stroke Pain After Ischemic Stroke: Secondary Analysis of the INSPiRE‐TMS Trial

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 10, July 2026.
In 1022 minor ischemic stroke patients, baseline anxiety was associated with new severe pain at 1 year. In the MRI subgroup (N = 391), lesion network mapping implicated a distributed network including the insula, anterior cingulate cortex, and thalamus; Neurosynth decoding showed the highest similarity to pain and nociception terms.

Nitric Oxide–Mediated Spinal Disinhibition Contributes to the Sensitization of Primate Spinothalamic Tract Neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Nitric oxide–mediated spinal disinhibition contributes to the sensitization of primate spinothalamic tract neurons. This study concentrated on whether an increase in spinal nitric oxide (NO) diminishes inhibition of spinothalamic tract (STT) cells ...
