Characterization of spiny lobsters from Bangladesh waters using morphology, COI and 16S rRNA sequences

open access: yesHeliyon, 2022
This study aims to taxonomically identify and characterise the phylogenetic relationships of spiny lobsters based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and 16S rRNA genes from Bangladesh waters.

Early evolutionary history of the seed

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1511-1553, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The seed is an essential stage in the life history of gymnospermous and angiospermous plants, facilitating both their survival and dispersal. We reappraise knowledge of the evolutionary history of the gymnospermous seed, from its origin in the late Devonian through to the well‐known end‐Permian extinctions – an interval encompassing the ...

An Induced Bactericidin in the Spiny Lobster, Panulirus argus

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1968
SummarySpiny lobsters, P. argus, immunized with living or killed bacteria, have been shown to synthesize a nondialyzable bactericidin. This substance was present in the hemolymph and was usually detectable within 12 hours. In the primary response, it reached a peak within 24-48 hours.

Models reveal potential synergies in management actions for bull kelp forest resilience and restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 6, June 2026.
We found that urchin culling and kelp seeding interventions can be effective at rebuilding kelp forests, but require intensive effort (e.g. removing 25%–50% of urchins over multiple years), especially in the absence of predators. Our results provide recommendations for the magnitude and timing of culling and seeding that would be needed to provide ...

Bacteriomes associated with white‐leg disease in tropical rock lobster (Panulirus ornatus) hatcheries

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract White‐leg disease (WLD) is an emerging condition affecting tropical rock lobster, Panulirus ornatus, larviculture, characterized by whitening of pereiopods and uropods, followed by rapid mortality. Despite its significant impact on aquaculture productivity, the bacterial drivers and environmental sources of WLD are still poorly understood ...

Acoustic scaling in the European spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas)

open access: yes, 2022
Sound is an important cue for arthropods. In insects, sound features and sound-producing apparatus are tightly correlated to enhance signal emission in larger individuals.

Purification of a novel allergen (SAP-1), which induces allergic asthma, from the red soft coral (Alcyonium graciHimum)

open access: yesAllergology International, 2000
The red soft coral that is found around the spiny lobster represents a major allergen and many fishermen, especially those that catch the spiny lobster, suffer from allergic symptoms.

Efficacy and Safety of the Use of Interspinous Spacers in the Treatment of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: Mapping Gap and Scoping Review

open access: yesPain Practice, Volume 26, Issue 5, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Low back pain is a common pathology in the general population. In people over 60 years of age, it is associated with degenerative changes that cause narrowing of the vertebral canal. Its treatment includes conservative measures and even surgery with decompression and fusion.

Update of the risk assessment on dioxins and dioxin‐like PCBs in feed and food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin‐like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL‐PCBs) in feed and food, based on the 2022 WHO Toxic Equivalency Factors (WHO2022‐TEFs).

A New Population of the Small European Locust Lobster (Scyllarus arctus) on Artificial Reefs (Central Adriatic Sea)

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Lobsters, including the Small European locust lobster Scyllarus arctus, are distributed throughout the Mediterranean Sea, inhabiting rocky bottoms, muddy substrates and seagrass meadows. Despite increasing scientific interest, S. arctus remains understudied, and available information on its distribution is largely limited to grey literature ...
