Intracranial metastases in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
BACKGROUND: Intracranial metastases are rarely clinically diagnosed in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Only 7 patients with metastases to the cavernous sinus from head and neck squamous cell carcinomas have been reported.

CD177 Deficiency Defines a Stable Subtype of Human Neutrophil Granulocytes with Tumor Promoting Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human neutrophils exist as two epigenetically imprinted subtypes defined by stable CD177 expression or absence — a ratio that persists across time, circadian rhythms, and inflammation. CD177− neutrophils display a distinct molecular landscape enriched in arginase 1 and lipid metabolism markers, accumulate in head‐and‐neck tumors, and associate with ...

Quantitative proteomics identifies biomarkers to distinguish pulmonary from head and neck squamous cell carcinomas by immunohistochemistry

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology: Clinical Research, 2022
The differentiation between a pulmonary metastasis and a newly developed squamous cell carcinoma of the lung in patients with prior head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is difficult due to a lack of biomarkers but is crucially important for the ...

The role of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 in oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
PhDOral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. The greatest cause of mortality and surgical morbidity is due to the common spread of tumour cells from the primary lesion to the lymph nodes of the neck. This pathway is

RBM12 Maintains Glioma Stem Cells by Activating Amino Acid‐Dependent mTORC1 Signaling via SLC7A5 mRNA Stabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that in glioma stem cells (GSCs), RBM12 recruits ALKBH5 to remove m6A from SLC7A5 transcripts, thereby enhancing mRNA stability, which elevates large neutral amino acid (LNAA) levels and activates mTORC1, promoting GSC proliferation, self‐renewal, and tumor growth.

Biomarkers in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: unraveling the path to precision immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
Recent strides in understanding the molecular underpinnings of head and neck cancers have sparked considerable interest in identifying precise biomarkers that can enhance prognostication and enable personalized treatment strategies.

Stromal Regulation of Tumor Perineural Invasion: A Multicellular and Neuro‐Ecological Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review reframes perineural invasion (PNI) as a dynamic, multicellular process within the tumor–nerve–stromal ecosystem. The authors delineate how cancer‐associated fibroblasts, Schwann cells, and immune cells remodel the neural niche to facilitate tumor spread.

Replication-Competent Herpes Simplex Virus Vector G207 and Cisplatin Combination Therapy for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 1999
Replication-competent virus vectors are attractive therapeutic agents for cancer. G207, a second-generation, multimutated herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), is one such vector that is safe in primates and efficacious against human tumors in athymic ...

Gene expression profiling of head and neck cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
MDThe purpose of this study was to classify oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) based on their gene expression profiles, to identify differentially expressed genes in these cancers, and to correlate genetic deregulation with clinical ...
