Dry intrusions and warm‐core development in Medicanes: Insights from a multi‐case analysis and the peculiar evolution of Ianos

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Mediterranean tropical‐like cyclones show a clear seasonality, with September cyclones exhibiting the deepest convection and Ianos representing the most extreme case. While one or more dry intrusions are typically detected during the cyclone life cycle, Ianos instead features two much weaker descending airflows.

A Hero's Journey to Systemic Change: Developing Expertise in Agricultural Development

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Experts in rural development and agrarian change wield considerable influence over programme design and delivery, directing resources and shaping trajectories towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet the pathways through which such expertise develops remain under‐examined. This study examines the journey to expertise among experts

Study of Brake Shoes Parameters on Brake Squeal Propensity Based on Complex Eigenvalue Method

open access: yes机车电传动, 2015
A finite element model of a pad-wheel brake device was established using ABAQUS to predict the brake squeal noise. The influence of friction coefficient between the friction body and the tread, Young’s modulus of the friction body and the back plate on ...

Friction-Excited Oscillation of Air Conditioner Rotary Compressors: Measurements and Numerical Simulations

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
The oscillation of a rotary compressor was measured and analyzed in the frequency and time domains. The harmonic wavelet transform was used to dissolve the oscillation signal into a series of single-frequency components.

A South African Language Teacher Educator's Reflective Journey Through Sociocultural Theory and Asset‐Based Mediation

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This reflective article chronicles a South African English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) university teacher educator's journey from professional disillusionment toward a more intentional, transformative praxis. The catalyst for this journey was the recurring observation of novice teachers abandoning dialogic, asset‐based pedagogies learned ...

Prediction of Squeal Noise Based on Multiresolution Signal Decomposition and Wavelet Representation—Application to FEM Brake Systems Subjected to Friction-Induced Vibration

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
This paper is devoted to discussion of the efficiency of reduced models based on a Double Modal Synthesis method that combines a classical modal reduction and a condensation at the frictional interfaces by computing a reduced complex mode basis, for the ...

Exploring Teacher Idealism: The Concentric Model, Narrative Identity, and Agency in English Language Teaching in Türkiye

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Teacher idealism, the ethical, aspirational, and future‐oriented dimension of professional identity, remains under‐theorized in second language teacher education (SLTE) despite its central role in sustaining pedagogical agency and professional resilience.

Islam at the monastery: on infinity as subtractive truth L'islam au monastère : de l'infini comme vérité soustractive

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Based on ethnographic research at Rūm Orthodox Christian monasteries in Lebanon, the article studies scenes of Islam at the monastery as they intersect with anxious public debates on, and anthropological theorizations of, sectarianism and ‘Muslim–Christian’ relations in the Mashriq.

Generation mechanism of in-plane squeal on disk brake (Investigation of squeal generation conditions using low-degree-of-freedom analysis model)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
A brake that presses a friction material against a rotating disk is called a disk brake. And it is widely used in industrial machines and automobiles. A noise called squeal may occur during braking.

A new shape optimization with robustness and its application for brake squeal phenomena

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
This paper proposes a new shape optimization with robustness, and its application for disc brake squeal phenomena is shown. The disc brake squeal is known as self-excited vibration; the real and imaginary parts of the complex eigenvalue indicate the ...
