A Stall Margin Design Method for Planar and Axisymmetric Diffusers
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1983An inverse design method is presented which gives the user control over stall margin, or distance from detachment, along the walls of planar and axisymmetric diffusers. It is proposed that optimum diffuser designs have continuous incipient detachment along their wall boundary layers.

Vane Clocking Effects on Stall Margin in a Multistage Compressor
48th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2012Vane clocking is the circumferential indexing of adjacent vane rows with similar vane counts. There are no reports in the open literature regarding clocking effects on stall margin. Recent vane clocking investigations showed a measurable impact on embedded stage efficiency in a three-stage axial compressor research facility.

A kind of casing treatment, named as stall precursor-suppressed (SPS), has been developed recently, which was proved to be able to effectively improve stall margin (SM) without significant efficiency loss in low-speed axial flow compressors and a transonic compressor rotor. In this paper, the effectiveness of the SPS casing treatment is investigated in

Active Compressor Stability Management via a Stall Margin Control Mode
Volume 1: Aircraft Engine; Ceramics; Coal, Biomass and Alternative Fuels; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education; Electric Power; Awards and Honors, 2009An active engine control scheme for protection against compressor instabilities such as rotating stall and surge is presented. Compressor stability detection is accomplished via a parameter known as the correlation measure, which quantifies the repeatability of the pressure fluctuations in the tip region of a compressor rotor.

Development of Stall Margin Instrumentation Designed for use in Icing Conditions
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper presents further development of stall margin instrumentation designed for use in icing conditions. Initial work developing this instrumentation was conducted on a NACA 0018 wing model in Western Michigan University's wind tunnel.<span class="xref">1</span> The results ...

Flow and Performance Calculations of Axial Compressor near Stall Margin
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010Three‐dimensional flows through a Low Speed Research Axial Compressor were numerically conducted in order to estimate the performance through unsteady and steady‐state simulations. The first stage with the inlet guide vane was investigated at the design point to confirm that the rotor blade induced periodicity exists.

An Experimental Investigation on the Mechanism of Stall Margin Improvement of Casing Treatment
Volume 1: Aircraft Engine; Turbomachinery, 1985A single-rotor axial flow compressor and a two-dimensional cascade have been tested with and without casing treatment. A three-dimensional flow mechanism of the onset of rotating stall is suggested. It gives good reason to explain the mechanism of stall-margin improvement of casing treatment.

Stall Margin Improvement in a Centrifugal Compressor Through Endwall Reshaping
ASME 2012 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2012This paper presents the results of numerical studies on the effect of endwall reshaping on the performance and stall margin of a centrifugal compressor. The endwall (shroud) of a baseline compressor was reshaped by introducing a convex hump at a location downstream of the inducer where the flow turns from axial to radial direction.

Review of tip air injection to improve stall margin in axial compressors
Progress in Aerospace Sciences, 2019Abstract The present paper provides a summary of investigations of the tip air injection, which has been studied for over 30 years to extend the stall margin in axial flow compressors. The review covers the design of injected parameters, understanding of stability-enhancing mechanism, application of active control, and self-recirculation based on tip
