Influence of the inlet distortion on fan stall margin at different rotational speeds

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2020
Abstract The aim of this paper is to develop a reliable and accurate numerical strategy that can be used to study the effects of inlet distortions on the aerodynamic stability of fan blades in aero-engines. As an initial step towards achieving this goal, three-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulations were carried out ...

Stall Margin Improvement in a Transonic Compressor With a Casing Treatment: Flow Mechanism

Journal of Turbomachinery, 2022
Abstract A compressor casing treatment with circumferential casing grooves (CCGs) is studied in detail. The primary objective of the current paper is to unearth the main driving fluid mechanism that changes the stall margin in a transonic compressor with CCGs.

Influence of Compressor Deterioration on Engine Dynamic Behavior and Transient Stall-Margin

Journal of Turbomachinery, 1999
This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of compressor stability assessment during engine transient operation. A two-dimensional, linear, compressible, state-space analysis of stall-inception (Feulner et al., 1996, ASME J. Turbomach., 118, pp. 1–10) was modified to account for engine transients and deterioration, with the latter

Calculation of Stall Margin Enhancement With Micro-Tip Injection in an Axial Compressor

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2019
Although steady micro-injection is experimentally validated as an attractive method in improving the stall margin of axial compressors, up to now a fast prediction of stall boundary remains some way off. This investigation is to propose such a prediction model.

Investigation and Prediction of Steam-Induced Stall-Margin Reduction in Two Transonic Rotor Fans

Volume 8: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2012
A comprehensive investigation into the behavior of two transonic compressor rotors operating at near-stall conditions while ingesting hot-steam was undertaken. This type of inlet flow was similar to that experienced by naval aircraft during steam catapult launches and has had the potential to adversely affect engine performance.

Flow Mechanism for Stall Margin Improvement Due to Circumferential Casing Grooves on Axial Compressors

Volume 5: Turbo Expo 2004, Parts A and B, 2004
A computational study is carried out to understand the physical mechanism responsible for the improvement in stall margin of an axial flow rotor due to the circumferential casing grooves. It is shown that the computational tool used predicts an increase in operating range of the rotor when casing groves are present.

Efficiency and Stall Margin Enhancement in Transonic Compressor Rotors Using Synthetic Jets: A Numerical Investigation

Volume 9: Heat Transfer, Fluid Flows, and Thermal Systems, Parts A, B and C, 2009
Several passive and active techniques were studied and developed by compressor designers with the aim of improving the aerodynamic behavior of compressor blades by reducing, or even eliminating, flow separation. Fluidic-based methods, in particular, were investigated for a long time, including both steady and unsteady suction, blowing and oscillating ...
