Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Nonlinear model of ice surface softening during friction

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2016
The ice surface softening during friction is shown as a result of spontaneous appearance of shear strain caused by external supercritical heating. This transformation is described by the Kelvin-Voigt equation for viscoelastic medium, by the relaxation ...

The reversing of interfaces in slow diffusion processes with strong absorbtion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper considers a family of one-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equations with absorption. In particular, the solutions that have interfaces that change their direction of propagation are examined.

Interaction‐Driven Assembly Pathways in Heterogeneous Active Microrobotic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Peanut‐ and cube‐shaped light‐powered microrobots exhibit distinct magnetic and photocatalytic responses that determine their heterogeneous self‐assembly. In the dark, magnetic dipole interactions drive colloidal copolymerization with cubes acting as nucleation centers, whereas under light irradiation, phoretic interactions compete with magnetic ...

A numerical investigation of heat transfer in phase change materials (PCMs) embedded in porous metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The effects of metal foams on heat transfer enhancement in Phase Change Materials (PCMs) are investigated. The numerical investigation is based on the two-equation non-equilibrium heat transfer model, in which the coupled heat conduction and natural ...
