Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Comparison Of Quasi-Steady State And Dynamic Simulation Approaches For The Calculation Of Building Energy Needs: Thermal Losses

open access: yes, 2012
One of the aims of the European Directive 2010/31/EU (formerly 2002/91/EC) is to reduce the energy consumption of buildings introducing an energy labeling protocol which is expected to capture the attention and reorient the market, sustaining the ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Dynamic Performance Simulation of a Household Refrigerator with a Quasi-Steady Approach

open access: yes, 2012
The paper presents a quasi-steady approach for modeling a household refrigerator. The model applies a novel methodology to perform the dynamic simulation. It uses a map of unit which contains high accuracy performance data of the refrigeration loop. This

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

A Wavelet-Based Procedure for Steady-State Simulation Output Analysis

open access: yes, 2003
The objective of this research is to develop an automated sequential procedure by which an asymptotically valid confidence interval is constructed for the steady-state mean of a simulation output process.

Lap time simulation with transient vehicle and tyre dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A numerical method is presented for the time optimal control of the race car. The method is then used to perform the role of the driver in numerical simulations of manoeuvres at the limit of race car performance.

Computational fluid dynamics simulation of spray dryers: transient or steady state simulation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
[EN] Self-sustained fluctuating airflow behaviour in spray drying chambers is in essence an unsteady phenomenon requiring the transient CFD simulation framework.

Transient exponential-Erlang queues and steady-state simulation [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications of the ACM, 1985
The transient probabilistic structure of M/E m /1 and E m /M/1 queues initialized in an arbitrary deterministic state is derived in discrete time. Computational algorithms for obtaining the required probabilities are provided, and their application in calculating a variety of system ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
