Melatonin Promotes Improvement in Serum Lipid Levels and Liver Histopathology in Hyperlipidemic Rats

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemia is the term used for the increase in lipid levels in blood plasma, usually occurring due to a high‐fat diet associated with a sedentary lifestyle. The increase in lipid levels can cause fatty infiltration in the liver known as hepatic steatosis, which can lead to inflammation, fibrosis, and necrosis consecutively.

Calcitriol Suppresses Platelet Activation and Thrombosis, Mitigating Cardiovascular Risks in Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesJACC: Basic to Translational Science
Summary: Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease is associated with vitamin D deficiency, and platelets exhibit hyperactivity. Zhang et al provide novel insights into the mechanisms underlying platelet hyperreactivity and thrombotic risk

Circulating Omega‐3 Fatty Acids and Cardiometabolic Outcomes: A Systematic Review of Publications From UK Biobank

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Studies have shown that omega‐3 fatty acids may protect against cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and related metabolic conditions. UK Biobank is a large cohort study that includes data on plasma omega‐3 fatty acids at study entry and health outcomes during the follow‐up period.

Thy‐1 restricts steatosis and liver fibrosis in steatotic liver disease

open access: yesLiver International
Abstract Background and Aims Steatotic liver disease (SLD) is generally considered to represent a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and includes a disease spectrum comprising isolated steatosis, metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis, liver fibrosis and ultimately cirrhosis.

Incomplete Spoiling Correction for 3D T1$$ {T}_1 $$ Mapping

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Assess the impact of incomplete spoiling and spatial saturation on T1$$ {T}_1 $$ mapping using the variable flip angle (VFA) spoiled gradient recalled echo sequence (SPGR). Develop a correction for incomplete spoiling that results in an accurate estimate of T1$$ {T}_1 $$, essential for quantitative MRI applications.

Multi-modal AI for opportunistic screening, staging and progression risk stratification of steatotic liver disease

open access: yesNature Communications
The global rise in steatotic liver disease poses a significant public health challenge. While non-contrast computed tomography scans hold promise for opportunistic detection of steatotic liver disease, their potential for staging and risk assessment ...

Endoscopic small bowel therapies for type 2 diabetes

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Type 2 diabetes is a global epidemic despite current medical treatments. Many patients are not responsive to medications, and patients with obesity are hesitant about bariatric surgery. Studies investigating the metabolic effects of Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass have increasingly demonstrated that the duodenum plays a key role in the ...

Early‐Life Dietary Protein Source Reshapes Gut Microbiota but Fails to Curtail Diet‐Induced Metabolic Syndrome in Young Rats

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Dairy consumption plays a protective role in obesity that may be mediated through the gut microbiota. This study examined the role of dairy proteins, casein, whey, and complete dairy (skim milk powder), and a plant‐based alternative, soy, on gut microbiota composition, obesity susceptibility, and insulin sensitivity in early ...
