Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Modeling Of Active Bending By The Method Newton-Raphson And The Modified Newton-Raphson

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering
The paper deals with the modelling and analysis of a single layer timber gridshell produced by active bending. Two geometrically nonlinear calculation methods, the Newton-Raphson method and the Modified Newton-Raphson method, are compared for the ...

Behaviour of Dissimilar Welded Connections of Mild Carbon (S235), Stainless (1.4404), and High-Strength (S690) Steels under Monotonic and Cyclic Loading

open access: yesMetals
In the context of an increasing interest in the use of high-performance steels in the construction industry due to their superior mechanical properties, understanding the behaviour and assessing the performance of dissimilar welded connections becomes ...

Effect of corrosion degree on different steel ductility parameters, based on 'Equivalent Steel' criterion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
One of the meaningful effects of concrete reinforcement steel corrosion on concrete structures is the decrease of mechanical properties, specifically the ductility of steel.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The engineering method for unifying ground floor slab settlements

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2020
For industrial buildings and logistics centres truck lifts are usually used. Therefore, there are special requirements for flatness tolerance of ground floor. The ground floor settlements differences in selected distances are limited. The article reviews

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

On the Simplified Numerical Analyses of an Adaptive Double‐Glazed Façade Considering Steady‐State Conditions and Experimental Data

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering
The façade of a building accounts for large areas of its envelope, representing the interface between the uncontrolled outdoor climate and the conditioned interior. The façade is therefore largely responsible for the building's energy balance.

Hydrodynamics of a new concept of primary containment by energy absorption [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Fluid dynamical analysis for idealized reactors system with spherical symmetry determines the effect which the destructive component of a nuclear accident produces on primary containment structures.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...
