Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Stellar photometry for the shared skies partnership

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis forms a feasibility study into the use of remotely operable telescopes at Mount Kent Observatory in Australia and Moore Observatory in the USA for precision stellar photometry by distance education students, for an initiative called the ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Determination of distance and stellar parameters by Bayes probabilistic inference

open access: yes
This thesis is devoted to the study of the stellar parameters and determination of stellar distances. For that purpose, the BEAST (The Bayesian Extinction and Stellar Tool) algorithm was used.

The Interplay of Stellar Evolution and Collisions in Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Nuclear star clusters (NSCs) surrounding supermassive black holes (SMBHs) are among the densest stellar environments in the Universe. In these environments, collisions can shape the stellar mass function and produce exotic stellar populations.

Directional time-distance probing of model sunspot atmospheres

open access: yes, 2015
A crucial feature not widely accounted for in local helioseismology is that surface magnetic regions actually open a window from the interior into the solar atmosphere, and that the seismic waves leak through this window, reflect high in the atmosphere ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Long-Period Variables in the Large Magellanic Cloud

open access: yes, 2023
We present the first results from a new set of linear, radial, non-adiabatic pulsation models of long-period variables (LPVs), widely covering the space of stellar parameters corresponding to evolution along the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB).
