Numerical Simulations Confirm Wave-induced Shear Mixing in Stellar Interiors

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Internal gravity waves (IGWs) are thought to cause mixing in stellar interiors, a process that has been widely studied both theoretically and numerically.

Masses of subgiant stars from asteroseismology using the coupling strengths of mixed modes

open access: yes, 2012
Since few decades, asteroseismology, the study of stellar oscillations, enables us to probe the interiors of stars with great precision. It allows stringent tests of stellar models and can provide accurate radii, masses and ages for individual stars.

X-rays in the Orion Nebula Cluster: Constraints on the origins of magnetic activity in pre-main sequence stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A recent Chandra/ACIS observation of the Orion Nebula Cluster detected 1075 sources (Feigelson et al. 2002), providing a uniquely large and well-defined sample to study the dependence of magnetic activity on bulk properties for stars descending the ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Primordial Lithium from Globular Cluster Turnoff Stars: M13 and M71

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
During Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) in the first 15 minutes of the Universe, some ^7 Li was created along with isotopes of H and He. The determination of that primordial value of Li can help constrain the conditions at that time.

Rotation and stellar evolution

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
The effects of rotation on the evolution and properties of low-mass stars are first discussed from the pre-main sequence to the red giant phase. We then briefly indicate how some observational constraints available for these stars can help us progress in

Stability of toroidal magnetic fields in stellar interiors

open access: yes, 2015
We present 3D MHD simulations of purely toroidal and mixed poloidal-toroidal magnetic field configurations to study the behavior of the Tayler instability.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

The Impact of Recent LUNA Measurements of NeNa Reactions on 26Al Stellar Nucleosynthesis

open access: yesUniverse
Recent measurements performed by the LUNA(Laboratory for Underground Nuclear Astrophysics) collaboration between 2019 and 2024 have provided the most precise direct determinations to date of several key reaction rates in the NeNa cycle, specifically the ...

Rotating Stellar Interiors (Review Paper) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1987
AbstractRotation has two main qualitative effects on the structure of a star: it distorts the shape and it reduces the total luminosity. The luminosity depends only on the total angular momentum but the shape, and so the observable properties, depends on the internal distribution of angular momentum.
