STELLAR KINEMATICS AND STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF VIRGO CLUSTER DWARF EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES FROM THE SMAKCED PROJECT. II. THE SURVEY AND A SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF KINEMATIC ANOMALIES AND ASYMMETRIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present spatially resolved kinematics and global stellar populations and mass-to-light ratios for a sample of 39 dwarf early-type (dE) galaxies in the Virgo cluster studied as part of the SMAKCED stellar absorption-line spectroscopy and imaging survey.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Overcoming Printing and Interfacial Challenges in Liquid Metal Direct Writing for Integrated Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Liquid metal direct writing is advanced from a technological and fundamental point. Utilizing a kinematic bed, printing on large surfaces with irregularities is enabled. Furthermore, a pressure‐driven flow during printing is discovered that affects the thickness of traces.

The Angular Momentum of Stars Reflects the Relationship between Star-forming Environment and Galactic Evolution History

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
This study focuses on stars with masses above the Kraft break in the Kepler field. Their rotational angular momenta are essentially the same as those at the zero-age main sequence.

The Supermassive Black Hole at the Heart of Centaurus A: Revealed by Gas- and Stellar Kinematics

open access: yes, 2010
At less than 4 Mpc distance the radio galaxy NGC 5128 (Centaurus A) is the prime example to study the supermassive black hole and its influence on the environment in great detail.

Azimuthal Misalignments in Stellar Warp Structure as Dynamical Tracers of Mergers in Milky Way–like Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We investigate the origin of warps in stellar disks using high-resolution Milky Way analogs from the IllustrisTNG50 simulation. Focusing on galaxies that experienced a major merger, we identify a characteristic azimuthal misalignment between the warp ...

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

On the Origin of the Kinematical Differences Between the Stellar Halo and the Old Globular Cluster System in the Large Magellanic Cloud

open access: yes, 2007
We discuss structural and kinematical properties of the stellar halo and the old globular cluster system (GCS) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) based on numerical simulations of the LMC formation.

Stellar kinematics of barred galaxies

open access: yes, 1999
I show that the counter-rotating core of the barred galaxy NGC 5728 could be explained by the internal dynamics of the bar. This supports the idea that the nuclear bar is counter-rotating.
