Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Evidence that Mass Loss on the Red Giant Branch Decreases with Metallicity

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Mass loss on the red giant branch (RGB) influences stellar evolution, properties of stellar populations, and Galactic chemical enrichment, yet remains poorly constrained observationally. Current models provide limited insight into how stellar properties,

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Disk Mass-to-Light ratio distribution from stellar population synthesis: Application to rotation curve decomposition of NGC 5278 (KPG 390 A). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this work we extend the study on the mass distribution of the spiral galaxy NGC 5278, performing 1D and 2D (GALFIT) bulge-disk decomposition to determine which components constitute the baryonic mass in this galaxy.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Constraining the Stellar Mass Function in the Galactic Center via Mass Loss from Stellar Collisions [PDF]

open access: yes
The dense concentration of stars and high-velocity dispersions in the Galactic center imply that stellar collisions frequently occur. Stellar collisions could therefore result in significant mass loss rates.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.
