Isolation and characterisation of mouse amniotic fluid stem cells: study of their origin, regenerative potential and reprogramming into pluripotent cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction: Stem cells are defined by their ability to proliferate for a long period of time, a property known as ‘self-renewal’, and to give rise to differentiated cells.

PEDF Promotes Self-Renewal of Limbal Stem Cell and Accelerates Corneal Epithelial Wound Healing

open access: yes, 2017
Limbal epithelial stem cell (LSC) transplantation is a prevalent therapeutic method for patients with LSC deficiency. The maintenance of stem cell characteristics in the process of culture expansion is critical for the success of ocular surface ...

"Studies on the cardiomyocytic potential of dermal stem cells” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In Europe, diseases of the heart and circulatory system are the main cause of death; 48% of all deaths are from coronary heart disease, accounting for over 4.30 million deaths each year (European cardiovascular disease statistics 2008). Identifying stem

Reconstruction of chemically burned rat corneal surface by bone marrow-derived human mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yes, 2005
To examine whether transplantation of human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) could reconstruct the corneal damage and also whether grafted MSCs could differentiate into corneal epithelial cells, we isolated MSCs from healthy donors.

Embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells: understanding, creating, and exploiting the nano-niche for regenerative medicine.

open access: yes, 2013
Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have the capacity to differentiate into any specialized cell type of the human body, and therefore, ESC/iPSC-derived cell types offer great potential for regenerative medicine ...

Cardiac Specific Gene Expression Changes in Long Term Culture of Murine Mesenchymal Stem Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Murine MSCs are a readily available source of adult stem cells enabling extensive in vitro study of this cell population. MSCs have been described as multipotent, and have been proven capable of differentiation into several connective tissue types ...

Identification and characterization of stem Leydig cells in the testis

open access: yes, 2014
In the testis, several cell types are needed to ensure male fertility, among them the testosterone-producing Leydig cells. Testosterone supports the maturation of sperm and maintains the male phenotype. Functional Leydig cells are therefore required to prevent testicular malfunction.
