A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Steric sea-level fluctuations from remote sensing, oceanic reanalyses and objective analyses in the North Atlantic

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2020
Five data sets were used to estimate steric level fluctuations in the North Atlantic for 2003-2015. We compare estimates made by a combination of altimetry and GRACE gravity data (ALT-GRV) with assessments obtained from vertical density profiles derived ...

Long-range electrostatic interactions between like-charged colloids: steric and confinement effects

open access: yes, 1999
Within the framework of a Modified Poisson-Boltzmann theory accounting for steric effects of microions, we prove analytically that the effective pair interactions between like-charge colloids immersed in a confined electrolyte are repulsive. Our approach

Stratification relieves constraints from steric hindrance in the generation of compact acto-myosin asters at the membrane cortex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Recent in-vivo studies have revealed that several membrane proteins are driven to form nanoclusters by active contractile flows arising from F-actin and myosin at the cortex. The mechanism of clustering was shown to be arising from the dynamic patterning

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

An NMR Study on How Steric Effects Affect Synergistic Effects in Surfactant Mixtures

open access: yesChinese Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2018
NMR spectra of aqueous solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/triton X-100 (TX-100), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/TX-100 and CTAB/TX-100/SDS surfactant mixtures were acquired.

Transmission of dipolar substituent effects: ionization of a series 3-(7-substituted-1-naphthyl) propynoic acid (E)-3-(7-substituted-1-naphthyl) propenoic acids and their Esterification with Diazodiphenylmethane

open access: yesAl-Kitab Journal for Pure Sciences, 2023
Alkaline hydrolysis rates coefficients for the series of methyl 3-(7-substituted-1-naphthyl) propynoate was calculated in 70%v/v dimethylsulphoxide-water at various temperatures (25,30,40, and 50̊ C).

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Bis(oxazolines) based on glycopyranosides – steric, configurational and conformational influences on stereoselectivity

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2010
In previous studies we found that the asymmetric induction of bis(oxazolines) based on D-glucosamine strongly depended on the steric demand of the 3-O-substituents.
