Displaced Vertex signatures of a pseudo-Goldstone sterile neutrino [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Low-scale models of neutrino mass generation often feature sterile neutrinos with masses in the GeV-TeV range, which can be produced at colliders through their mixing with the Standard Model neutrinos. We consider an alternative scenario in which the sterile neutrino is produced in the decay of a heavier particle, such that its production cross section

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Iron status in women with infertility and controls: a case-control study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
BackgroundIron deficiency is a common problem in subfertile women. The influence of iron status on unexplained infertility is unknown.MethodsIn a case-control study, 36 women with unexplained infertility and 36 healthy non-infertile controls were ...

Crosstalk between gut microbiota and tumor: tumors could cause gut dysbiosis and metabolic imbalance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this research, we analyzed the relationship between gut microbiota and tumor. We discovered that both subcutaneous and metastatic tumors would alter the composition and metabolic function of gut microbiota. Meanwhile, fecal microbiota transplantation also indicated the anti‐tumor role of the gut microbiota, revealing the crosstalk between tumor and ...

Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

X-ray fluorescence characterization of some medicinal plants traditionally used as aphrodisiac in the treatment of male sterility in Kenge City, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesOrapuh Journal
Introduction Male infertility refers to the inability of a man to impregnate a woman. It is a public health issue among men of reproductive age. Certain minerals, such as zinc, selenium, iron, and magnesium, are essential to produce healthy sperm and ...

Invisible Z decay width bounds on active-sterile neutrino mixing in the (3+1) and (3+2) models [PDF]

open access: yesMod.Phys.Lett.A24:475-483,2009, 2007
In this work we consider the standard model extended with singlet sterile neutrinos with mass in the eV range and mixed with the active neutrinos. The active-sterile neutrino mixing renders new contributions to the invisible Z decay width which, in the case of light sterile neutrinos, depends on the active-sterile mixing matrix elements only.

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to
