[Teratogenicity study of stevioside in rats].
Eisei Shikenjo hokoku. Bulletin of National Institute of Hygienic Sciences, 1996Teratogenicity of stevioside was examined in rats. Stevioside dissolved in distilled water was given to pregnant Wistar rats by gavage once a day from day 6 through 15 of pregnancy at doses of 0, 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg/day. The pregnant rats were sacrificed on day 20 of pregnancy and their fetuses were examined for malformation.

2002Abstract The literature about Stevia and stevioside used as a sweetener is discussed. Injection experiments or perfusion experiments of organs are considered as not relevant for the use of Stevia or stevioside as food, and therefore these studies are not included in this safety evaluation.
