Phytoalexin Biosynthesis: Stilbene Synthase and Co-Action of a Reductase with Chalcone Synthase
1993The biosynthesis of most phytoalexins is complex, and gene technology appears difficult, because gene transfer of complete pathways and their regulation into new hosts is not yet feasible. We summarize data on key enzymes in the biosynthesis of two phytoalexin types: a) stilbene synthase, which catalyzes a one-step reaction to phytoalexins from ...

Plant Cell Reports, 1981
Callus cultures were established from cotyledons of Arachis hypogaea. The cultured cells were shown to produce stilbene synthase (resveratrol-forming) if the cells were irradiated with 254 nm UV light. The lag period after which the stilbene synthase activity appeared was similar for cultured cells and intact cotyledons.

Expression of the stilbene synthase genes in the needles of spruce Picea jezoensis
Russian Journal of Genetics, 2016Stilbenes are valuable plant phytoalexins, the biosynthesis of which is characteristic of different groups of phylogenetically unrelated plants. It is believed that all the stilbenes are the derivatives of resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) or compounds close to it (pinosylvin or piceatannol).

4-hydroxy-2-pyrone formation by chalcone and stilbene synthase with nonphysiological substrates
Phytochemistry, 1998Valerophenone synthase (VPS) is a polyketide synthase that catalyzes the formation of the phloroglucinol derivatives in the synthesis of the bitter acids in hop (Humulus lupulus). The reaction uses isovaleryl-CoA or isobutyryl-CoA, but otherwise it is identical to that of the chalcone synthase in flavonoid biosynthesis.

Aromatic and pyrone polyketides synthesized by a stilbene synthase from Rheum tataricum.
Phytochemistry, 2003A cDNA encoding a stilbene synthase, RtSTS, was isolated from the rhizomes of Tatar rhubarb, Rheum tataricum L. (Polygonaceae), a medicinal plant containing stilbenes and other polyketides. Recombinant RtSTS was expressed in E. coli and assayed with acetyl-coenzyme A (CoA), n-butyryl-CoA, isovaleryl-CoA, n-hexanoyl-CoA, cinnamoyl-CoA and p-coumaroyl ...

[Comparison of stilbene synthase from different plant sources for resveratrol biosynthesis].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2015Resveratrol is a natural phytoalexin with special pharmacological and health functions. Stilbene synthase (STS) is a key and rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of resveratrol that is present only in a limited number of plants. The content of resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum is more than 1000 times higher than grapes and peanuts. We speculate

Antioxidant metabolomic in transgenic tomato plants expressing grapevine stilbene synthase
2004Clinical studies show that diets rich in vegetables and fruit reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and cancers. Plants polyphenols are the most wide spread dietary antioxidants. Important components of the polyphenol family are stilbenes, that act as antioxidant in plant and protects against degenerative, age related diseases when supplied in
