A Common But Usually Overlooked Cause of Fever of Unknown Origin: Still’s Disease

open access: yesBagcilar Medical Bulletin, 2022
A wide variety of causes, ranging from bacterial or viral infections to malignancies, may be responsible from the development of fever of unknown origin (FUO).

Case report Adult-onset Still’s disease as a mask of Hodgkin lymphoma

open access: yes, 2015
Adult-onset Still’s disease is a rare disorder, which creates difficulties in making a proper diagnosis. Ambiguous symptoms and results of auxiliary tests, lack of unequivocal diagnostic tests and the need to exclude other causes of the disease are major

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Interleukin-6 receptor pathways in coronary heart disease: a collaborative meta-analysis of 82 studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Persistent inflammation has been proposed to contribute to various stages in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Interleukin-6 receptor (IL6R) signalling propagates downstream inflammation cascades.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Adult onset Still’s disease: a comparison of two clinical cases

open access: yes, 2013
Still’s disease is a disease of unknown etiology that was identified for the first time in 1897 by George Still who noted the association of fever, arthralgias and cutaneous rash in a group of 22 children.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Recent advances and evolving concepts in Still’s disease

open access: yes
Still’s disease is a rare inflammatory syndrome that encompasses systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis and adult-onset Still’s disease, both of which can exhibit life-threatening complications, including macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), a secondary
