Idealised simulations of sting-jet cyclones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
An idealised modelling study of sting-jet cyclones is presented. Sting jets are descending mesoscale jets that occur in some extratropical cyclones and produce localised regions of strong low-level winds in the frontal fracture region.

cGAS-STING, inflammasomes and pyroptosis: an overview of crosstalk mechanism of activation and regulation

open access: yesCell communication and signaling : CCS
Background Intracellular DNA-sensing pathway cGAS-STING, inflammasomes and pyroptosis act as critical natural immune signaling axes for microbial infection, chronic inflammation, cancer progression and organ degeneration, but the mechanism and regulation

TBK1 recruitment to STING activates both IRF3 and NF-κB that mediate immune defense against tumors and viral infections

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2021
Significance The cGAS-STING pathway is important for immune defense against infection and cancer. STING activation triggers multiple signaling cascades leading to activation of IRF3, NF-κB, and autophagy.

LONG STINGS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Canadian Entomologist, 1882
In the May number of the Canadian Entomologist there is a very interesting paper under this caption, contributed by Mr. Harrington, giving an account of the habits of the Rhyssa atrata and lunator. These Long Stings the past summer were very abundant at Oak Hill, the residence of Mr. Herman T.

STING licensing of type I dendritic cells potentiates antitumor immunity

open access: yesScience immunology
Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is an immune adaptor protein that senses cyclic GMP-AMP in response to self or microbial cytosolic DNA as a danger signal.

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Mitochondrial control of innate immune signaling by irradiated cancer cells

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2020
Type I interferon (IFN) release by irradiated cancer cells is paramount for radiation therapy to elicit anticancer immunity. Our findings demonstrate that mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) triggered by RT enables exposure of ...

STING-driven activation of T cells: relevance for the adoptive cell therapy of cancer

open access: yesCell Stress, 2023
Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) can successfully treat hema-topoietic cancers but lacks efficacy against solid tumors. This is due to insufficient T cell infiltration, high tumor heterogeneity, frequent antigen loss with subsequent tumor escape, and the ...

STING contributes to lipopolysaccharide-induced tubular cell inflammation and pyroptosis by activating endoplasmic reticulum stress in acute kidney injury

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Recently, innate immunity and inflammation were recognized as the key factors for acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by sepsis, which is closely related to high mortality. Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) has emerged as a critical component of innate

BEES' STINGS AND RHEUMATISM [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1907
IT appears to be a familiar and widespread belief in many countries that the stings of bees act both protectively and as a cure for “rheumatism.” I have recently been able to collect some definite evidence in support of the belief in question.
