Understanding Contributors of Resilience in Youth With Childhood‐Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Through a Socioecological Lens: A Mixed‐Methods Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to identify themes contributing to resilience in childhood‐onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE), distinguish between profiles of resilience, and examine how they relate to underlying themes and patient characteristics. Methods We conducted a mixed‐methods study of 21 patients with cSLE aged 11 to 19 years at a Canadian ...

A quantitative method to monitor STING degradation with dual-luciferase reporters

open access: yesCell Structure and Function
Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) triggers the type I interferon and inflammatory responses against a variety of DNA pathogens, which is essential to limiting viral infection and replication.

Effects of STING stimulation on macrophages: STING agonists polarize into “classically” or “alternatively” activated macrophages?

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2018
Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) was defined as an important molecule for promoting antitumor immunity through mediating type I interferon (IFN) production by sensing its ligands such as cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP).

The sting is in the tale [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2006
Research is driven as much by new technology as by new ideas. Just think of the way biology has changed out of all recognition during the last 35 years as a result of, amongst other things, DNA cloning, Southern blotting, microarrays, mass spectroscopy, and high throughput DNA sequencing.

Lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain in Australian adults: A qualitative study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives Australian evidence on lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain (CMSP), irrespective of disorder classification or disease, is limited. However, such evidence is important for person‐centred care and informing local service pathways and care guidelines or standards.

cGAS-independent STING activation in response to DNA damage

open access: yesMolecular & Cellular Oncology, 2019
Self-DNA has previously been thought to be protected from immune detection by compartmentalisation in the nucleus or mitochondria. Here, we describe the discovery of a signalling cascade that links the detection of DNA damage in the nucleus to the ...

Mitochondrial control of innate immune signaling by irradiated cancer cells

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2020
Type I interferon (IFN) release by irradiated cancer cells is paramount for radiation therapy to elicit anticancer immunity. Our findings demonstrate that mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) triggered by RT enables exposure of ...

Activation of NF‐κB Signaling by Optogenetic Clustering of IKKα and β

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study presents an optogenetic approach for graded clustering of eGFP‐fused proteins using an eGFP‐specific nanobody and engineered Cryptochrome 2 variants. The method enables potent, reversible activation of NF‐κB signaling via endogenous pathways, as confirmed by RNA sequencing. This versatile system provides a spatially and temporally controlled

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.
