StMoMo: Stochastic Mortality Modeling in R

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we mirror the framework of generalized (non-)linear models to define the family of generalized age-period-cohort stochastic mortality models which encompasses the vast majority of stochastic mortality projection models proposed to date, including the well-known Lee-Carter and Cairns-Blake-Dowd models.

Myasthenia Gravis and Thymoma

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum. Approximately 20%–30% of patients with a thymoma develop myasthenia gravis (MG), and an additional one third may possess positive acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies without MG.

Effect of population reinforcement method, site, and plant characteristics on early establishment of the rare endemic plant species Minuartia smejkalii

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Many habitat‐specialist plant species have been endangered by fragmentation or destruction of their habitats. Minuartia smejkalii is a serpentinophyte endemic to the Czech Republic. It is highly threatened by recent habitat destruction and fragmentation, calling for effective conservation measures.

Autocorrelation in Stochastic Models of Dutch Mortality Rates

open access: yesMaRBLe, 2013
This paper studies different stochastic mortality models with respect to its underlying assumptions. The Lee-Carter model, the rank-p SVD approximation model, the Weighted Least Squares model and the Poisson Bilinear model are discussed and applied to a Dutch data set.

Stochastic portfolio specific mortality and the quantification of mortality basis risk

open access: yes, 2009
In the last decade a vast literature on stochastic mortality models has been developed. However, these models are often not directly applicable to insurance portfolios because: (a) For insurers and pension funds it is more relevant to model mortality ...

Optimal Control Analysis of Vertically Transmitted Infectious Diseases With Saturated Incidence and Nonlinear Treatment

open access: yesOptimal Control Applications and Methods, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the proposed disease transmission model incorporating vertical transmission, saturated incidence, and nonlinear treatment. The study combines theoretical analysis, bifurcation and stability investigations, and optimal control techniques to evaluate prevention and treatment interventions.

Stochastic optimization of heuristic method rule to determine asset allocation to retirement portfolio

open access: yesBusiness: Theory and Practice, 2011
The article examines the problem of determining asset allocation to sustainable retirement portfolio. The article attempts to apply heuristic method – 100 minus age in stocks rule – to determine asset allocation to sustainable retirement portfolio. Using

A gravity model of mortality rates for two related populations

open access: yes
The mortality rate dynamics between two related but different-sized populations are modeled consistently using a new stochastic mortality model that we call the gravity model.

Point and interval forecasts of mortality rates and life expectancy: A comparison of ten principal component methods [PDF]

open access: yes
Using the age- and sex-specific data of 14 developed countries, we compare the point and interval forecast accuracy and bias of ten principal component methods for forecasting mortality rates and life expectancy.

Seed co‐occurrence caused by shared frugivores leaves a long‐lasting signal in the spatial co‐occurrence among plants

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
By dispersing seeds, frugivorous animals affect spatial co‐occurrence of plants, ultimately influencing plant community dynamics. Frugivorous animals are intrinsically involved in plant community dynamics, by dispersing seeds of fleshy‐fruited plants and influencing their spatial co‐occurrence.
