The ghosts of propagation past: haplotype information clarifies the relative influence of stocking history and phylogeographic processes on contemporary population structure of walleye (Sander vitreus)

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2021
Stocking of fish is an important tool for maintaining fisheries but can also significantly alter population genetic structure and erode the portfolio of within‐species diversity that is important for promoting resilience and adaptability. Walleye (Sander

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Thе effectiveness of preventing thе “blooming” of thе Surskoye (Penza) reservoir, depending on the size of the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys) used for stocking

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений. Поволжский регион: Естественные науки, 2021
Background. The Surskoye (Penza) reservoir is the largest artificial reservoir of the Sursky Territory (Penza Region, the Republic of Mordovia), the main source of water supply for Penza and Zarechny, the main fishery reservoir with commercial fish ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

The largest Baltic population of sea trout (Salmo trutta L.): its decline, restoration attempts, and current status

open access: yesArchives of Polish Fisheries, 2018
The sea trout, Salmo trutta L. population in the Vistula River was the largest in the Baltic Sea. Its primary spawning grounds were located in the Carpathian tributaries in the upper river basin. The fish ascended to spawn in two runs: in winter when the

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Recycling e-waste into gold-loaded covalent organic framework catalysts for terminal alkyne carboxylation

open access: yesNature Communications
The rising demand for gold requires innovative methods for its recovery from e-waste. Here we present the synthesis of two tetrazine-based vinyl-linked covalent organic frameworks: TTF-COF and TPE-COF that adsorb gold ions and nanoparticles and catalyze ...

Performance, carcass characteristics and litter moisture in broilers housed at two densities

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2015
The effect of stocking density in broiler chickens (11.08 and 13.20 birds m-2), between 5 and 45 days of age, was assessed with regard to performance, cut yield, litter moisture and frequency of pododermatitis injuries.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have
