Nonstationary aspects of passive scalar gradient behaviour [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mechanics - B/Fluids, Elsevier, 2008, 27, pp.433 - 443, 2017
The dynamics of a passive scalar gradient experiencing fluctuating velocity gradient through the Lagrangian variations of strain persistence is studied. To this end, a systematic, numerical analysis based on the equation for the orientation of the gradient of a non-diffusive scalar in two-dimensional flow is performed. When the gradient responds weakly

Absence of Walker breakdown in the dynamics of chiral Neel domain walls driven by in-plane strain gradients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We investigate theoretically the motion of chiral N\'eel domain walls in perpendicularly magnetized systems driven by in-plane strain gradients. We show that such strain drives domain walls efficiently towards increasing tensile (compressive) strain for positive (negative) magnetostrictive materials.

Spectral alignment of single-photon emitters in diamond using strain gradient

open access: yes, 2018
Solid-state single-photon emitters are attractive for realization of integrated quantum systems due to their experimental convenience and scalability. Unfortunately, however, their complex mesoscopic environments cause photons from different emitters to ...

Weak Solutions within the Gradient-Incomplete Strain-Gradient Elasticity [PDF]

open access: yesLobachevskii Journal of Mathematics, 2020
In this paper we consider existence and uniqueness of the three-dimensional static boundary-value problems in the framework of so-called gradient-incomplete strain-gradient elasticity. We call the strain-gradient elasticity model gradient-incomplete such model where the considered strain energy density depends on displacements and only on some specific

Gradient-enhanced statistical analysis of cleavage fracture [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mechanics A/Solids (2019), 2019
We present a probabilistic framework for brittle fracture that builds upon Weibull statistics and strain gradient plasticity. The constitutive response is given by the mechanism-based strain gradient plasticity theory, aiming to accurately characterize crack tip stresses by accounting for the role of plastic strain gradients in elevating local ...

On the well posedness of static boundary value problem within the linear dilatational strain gradient elasticity

open access: yesZeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 2020
In this paper, it is proven an existence and uniqueness theorem for weak solutions of the equilibrium problem for linear isotropic dilatational strain gradient elasticity. Considered elastic bodies have as deformation energy the classical one due to Lamé

Non-singular dislocation continuum theories: Strain gradient elasticity versus Peierls-Nabarro model [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Magazine 97 (2017), 3246-3275, 2017
Non-singular dislocation continuum theories are studied. A comparison between Peierls-Nabarro dislocations and straight dislocations in strain gradient elasticity is given. The non-singular displacement fields, non-singular stresses, plastic distortions and dislocation core shapes are analyzed and compared for the two models.

Role of GNDs in bending strength gain of multilayer deposition generated heterostructured bulk aluminum

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
Gradient structured materials have been proven to have excellent mechanical properties, such as strength–ductility synergy and excellent strain hardening.

Effective strain gradient continuum model of metamaterials and size effects analysis

open access: yesContinuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics, 2020
In this paper, a strain gradient continuum model for a metamaterial with a periodic lattice substructure is considered. A second gradient constitutive law is postulated at the macroscopic level.

One-Dimensional Large-Strain Nonlinear Consolidation of Overconsolidated Clays with a Threshold Hydraulic Gradient

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
The existence of the threshold hydraulic gradient in clays under a low hydraulic gradient has been recognized by many studies. Meanwhile, most nature clays to some extent exist in an overconsolidated state more or less.
