Metagenomic and metabolomic analysis of changes in intestinal contents of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) infected with infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus at different culture water temperatures

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) is a major disease that limits the culture of rainbow trout. In practical production, it has been found that the temperature of the culture water is a crucial factor affecting its mortality.

Development of Software Facilities to Characterize Regulatory Binding Motifs and Application to Streptococcaceae

open access: yesMicrobial Physiology, 2007
Gene expression regulation often involves the recognition of particular DNA or RNA sequences, called motifs. Detection and characterization of such motifs together with biological expertise allow to build gene expression regulatory maps that facilitate the comprehension of complex cellular processes.

Comparative Effects of Cigarette and Hookah Smoking on Oral Microbiota Composition and Blood Indices in Young Adult Males [PDF]

open access: yesFASEB Bioadv
This study examined 87 healthy young males to compare the effects of cigarette and hookah smoking on oral microbiota and hematological parameters. Cigarette smokers showed the highest oral bacterial load and greater colonization by Candida albicans and Gram‐positive cocci, while hookah smokers also exhibited elevated microbial levels.

Biophysical and structural characterization of a zinc-responsive repressor of the MarR superfamily.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The uptake of zinc, which is vital in trace amounts, is tightly controlled in bacteria. For this control, bacteria of the Streptococcaceae group use a Zn(II)-binding repressor named ZitR in lactococci and AdcR in streptococci, while other bacteria use a ...

Colonic Inflammation Accompanies An Increase of β‐Catenin Signaling and Lachnospiraceae/Streptococcaceae in the Hind Gut of High‐Fat Diet‐Fed Mice

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2016
Consumption of an obesigenic/high‐fat (HF) diet isassociated with an increase of inflammation‐related colon cancer risk and mayalter the gut microbiota. To test the hypothesis that a HF feeding accelerates inflammatory processes and changes gut microbiome composition, C57BL/6mice were fed a HF (45% energy) or low‐fat (LF) (10 ...

Gut microbiota shifts and short‐chain fatty acids alterations in pediatric epilepsy patients on a Mediterranean ketogenic diet

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The olive oil–based Mediterranean ketogenic diet (MedKD) may support patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) or neurometabolic disorders by integrating ketogenic therapy with the cardiometabolic and neuroprotective advantages of the Mediterranean diet.
