Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

No stress please! Mechanisms of stress hyporesponsiveness of the maternal brain [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2008
The time around birth is accompanied by behavioural and physiological adaptations of the maternal brain, which ensure reproductive functions, maternal care and the survival of the offspring. In addition, profound neuroendocrine and neurobiological adaptations have been described with respect to behavioural and neuroendocrine stress responsiveness in ...

Periodic mechanical stress activates MEK1/2-ERK1/2 mitogenic signals in rat chondrocytes through Src and PLCγ1

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2011
The mitogenic effects of periodic mechanical stress on chondrocytes have been studied extensively but the mechanisms whereby chondrocytes sense and respond to periodic mechanical stress remain a matter of debate.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Mechanical stress facilitates calcium influx and growth of alveolar epithelial cells via activation of the BDKRB1/Ca2+/CaMKII/MEK1/ERK axis

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Mechanical stress and calcium metabolism are associated with lung development and various pulmonary diseases. Our previous research demonstrated that BDKRB1/Ca2+ signal transduction may be involved in lung dysplasia resulting from scoliosis ...

Stress and Strain State Analysis of Crack Front in Dissimilar Metal Welded Joints with Dual Field of Mechanical Heterogeneity and Residual Stress

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2022
The micro-mechanical state at the crack front is one of the key factors affecting the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) growth behavior. The mechanical heterogeneity and residual stress in the dissimilar metal welded joint (DMWJ) induce the micro ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Neural Mechanisms of Stress Resilience and Vulnerability [PDF]

open access: yesNeuron, 2012
Exposure to stressful events can be differently perceived by individuals and can have persistent sequelae depending on the level of stress resilience or vulnerability of each person. The neural processes that underlie such clinically and socially important differences reside in the anatomical, functional, and molecular connectivity of the brain. Recent

Stress vesicles link epidermal mechanotransduction to stem cell differentiation

open access: yesNature Communications
The skin exhibits extraordinary plasticity, enabling it to adapt to mechanical changes in the environment. While transient deformations are accommodated without lasting structural effects, sustained mechanical stress induces durable tissue changes.
