Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Root growth, yield and stress tolerance of soybean to transient waterlogging under different climatic regimes

open access: yesScientific Reports
Global warming-induced abiotic stresses, such as waterlogging, significantly threaten crop yields. Increased rainfall intensity in recent years has exacerbated waterlogging severity, especially in lowlands and heavy soils.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A parallel investigation of trauma exposure, maladaptive appraisals and posttraumatic stress reactions in two groups of trauma-exposed adolescents

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Psychotraumatology
Background: Maladaptive appraisals, such as thoughts about experiencing a permanent and disturbing change and about being a fragile person in a scary world, are associated with posttraumatic stress reactions (PTSR) for trauma-exposed children and ...

The Manifestation of Stress and Rumination in Musicians

open access: yes, 2016
Here we offer a brief review of research on individual differences that are common to musicians, focusing on our own work on rumination and stress. Rumination and stress have been linked with depression and negative health outcomes. We discuss two of our

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.

Manganese nutrient mitigates ammonia, arsenic toxicity and high temperature stress using gene regulation via NFkB mechanism in fish

open access: yesScientific Reports
The ongoing challenges of climate change and pollution are major factors disturbing ecosystems, including aquatic systems. They also have an impact on gene regulation and biochemical changes in aquatic animals, including fish.

Healthcare utilisation and barriers to healthcare after violence and rape in the Norwegian population: a cross-sectional, multimethod study

open access: yesBMJ Open
Objectives Despite the important role of healthcare services in trauma recovery, many survivors of violence do not seek help. This study aims to examine rates of healthcare utilisation, including differences for physical violence versus rape, gender and ...
