Environmental stress responses in Lactococcus lactis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Bacteria can encounter a variety of physical conditions during their life. Bacterial cells are able to survive these (often adverse) conditions by the induction of specific or general protection mechanisms. The lactic acid bacterium Lactococcus lactis is

Characterization of Weak Magnetic Internal Detection Signals of Hard Spot Defects in Long-Distance Oil and Gas Pipelines

open access: yesMagnetochemistry
A hard spot defect refers to structural defects that occur in long-distance oil and gas pipelines during the thermal processes. These defects arise from the combination of material phase changes and stress concentration, making them challenging to detect.

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Stress testing of real credit portfolios [PDF]

open access: yes
Stress testing has become a crucial point on the Basel II agenda, mainly as Pillar I estimates do not explicitly take portfolio concentration into account.

Effect of Acute Psychological Stress on Prefrontal GABA Concentration Determined by Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objective Impaired function of the central gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system, which provides the brain’s major inhibitory pathways, is thought to play an important role in the pathophysiology of anxiety disorders.

Experimental study on load transfer characteristics of fully bonded anchors in granite residual soil layer

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
There are abundant research results on the load transfer characteristics of the grout/ground interface of the ground anchors in the industry, but the problems in the cohesive soil layer are still confused such as interface bond stress concentration ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The influence of surface roughness characteristics on fatigue stress concentration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Numerical simulations have been performed to analyze the influence of surface roughness on the fatigue stress concentration with finite element method(FEM).The parameters to characterize the rough surface topology are analyzed, and the inherent ...

Simulation on the Influence of Inclusion–Matrix Interaction on Crack Initiation and Growth in Hypo-Peritectic Steel

open access: yesMetals
Hypo-peritectic steels are susceptible to interfacial cracking during thin-slab continuous casting, in which non-metallic inclusions play a critical role.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
