SWAP-70 regulates erythropoiesis by controlling α4 integrin

open access: yesHaematologica, 2011
Background The regulation of normal and stress-induced erythropoiesis is incompletely understood. Integrin-dependent adhesion plays important roles in erythropoiesis, but how integrins are regulated during erythropoiesis remains largely unknown.Design ...

The effect of intravenous iron on erythropoiesis in older people with hip fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Anaemia following hip fracture is common and associated with worse outcomes. Intravenous iron is a potential non-transfusion treatment for this anaemia and has been found to reduce transfusion rates in previous observational studies. There is

Macrophages provide essential support for erythropoiesis during chronic psychological stress

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Under steady-state conditions, a population of tissue-resident macrophages within erythroblastic islands is required for erythroid homeostasis.

Investigation of FoxO3 dynamics during erythroblast development in β-thalassemia major. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The FoxO3 transcription factor is a key regulator of oxidative stress and erythroid maturation during erythropoiesis. In this study, we explored the involvement of FoxO3 in severe β-thalassemia.

ATF4 Regulates MYB to Increase γ-Globin in Response to Loss of β-Globin

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: β-Hemoglobinopathies can trigger rapid production of red blood cells in a process known as stress erythropoiesis. Cellular stress prompts differentiating erythroid precursors to express high levels of fetal γ-globin.

Severe trauma and chronic stress activates extramedullary erythropoiesis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, 2017
Severe traumatic injury is associated with bone marrow dysfunction that manifests as impaired erythropoiesis and prolonged hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) mobilization from the bone marrow. Extramedullary erythropoiesis, the development of red blood cells outside the bone marrow, has not been studied after severe injury and critical illness.

Nucleoside deaminase: an enzymatic marker for stress erythropoiesis in the mouse [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1970
The level of nucleoside deaminase was determined in extracts of mouse tissues obtained during a period of accelerated erythropoiesis induced by hypoxia, hemorrhage, or the injection of phenylhydrazine. Under these conditions a striking (10- to 100-fold) elevation of the enzyme activity occurred in the spleen.

The inner nuclear membrane protein NEMP1 supports nuclear envelope openings and enucleation of erythroblasts.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2022
Nuclear envelope membrane proteins (NEMPs) are a conserved family of nuclear envelope (NE) proteins that reside within the inner nuclear membrane (INM). Even though Nemp1 knockout (KO) mice are overtly normal, they display a pronounced splenomegaly. This

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Ferroportin inhibitor vamifeport ameliorates ineffective erythropoiesis in a mouse model of β-thalassemia with blood transfusions

open access: yesHaematologica, 2023
β-thalassemia is an inherited anemia characterized by ineffective erythropoiesis. Blood transfusions are required for survival in transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia and are also occasionally needed in patients with non-transfusion-dependent β ...
