Injustice perceptions about pain: parent–child discordance is associated with worse functional outcomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Pain is experienced within and influenced by social environments. For children with chronic pain, the child–parent relationship and parental beliefs about pain are particularly important and may influence pain outcomes. Pain-related injustice perceptions

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Studying the Effect of Pulse Shape on Dynamic Stress Intensity Factor at the Finite Crack Tip using Displacement Fields [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology, 2020
In analytical studies, step (Heaviside) function is used to simulate an impact load. However, in real behaviour of materials, loading and unloading take a short time.

Strain intensity factor approach for predicting the strength of continuously reinforced metal matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes
A method was previously developed to predict the fracture toughness (stress intensity factor at failure) of composites in terms of the elastic constants and the tensile failing strain of the fibers.

A Continuum Theory of Crack Shielding in Ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A phenomenological constitutive model is proposed which aims at describing the overall effect of microfracture in ceramics. Based on this model, the asymptotic stress, strain, and displacement fields at the tip of a stationary macroscopic crack are ...

Crack path selection at the interface of wrought and wire+arc additive manufactured Ti–6Al–4V [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Crack propagation deviation tendency in specimens containing an interface between wrought alloy substrate and Wire + Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) built Ti–6Al–4V is investigated from the viewpoints of microstructure, residual stress and bi-material ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

The effect of broken stringers on the stress intensity factor for a uniformly stiffened sheet containing a crack [PDF]

open access: yes
A linear elastic stress analysis was made of a centrally cracked sheet stiffened by riveted, uniformly spaced and sized stringers. The stress intensity factor for the sheet and the load concentration factor for the most highly loaded stringer were ...

A Simplified Evaluation Method of the Stress Intensity Factor of a Circumferential Crack in a Cylinder Subjected to Axisymmetric Loads [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
A simplified method to approximately evaluate the stress intensity factor of an arbitrarily located circumferential crack in a cylinder subjected to axisymmetric loads was theoretically derived, based on the theory of cylindrical shell and compliance ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
