On Mathieu moonshine and Gromov-Witten invariants

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We provide further evidence that CY 3 manifolds are involved in an intricate way in Mathieu moonshine, i.e., their Gromov-Witten invariants are related to the expansion coefficients of the twined/twisted-twined elliptic genera of K3.

Torus bundles, automorphisms and T-duality

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We reconsider some older constructions of T-duality, based on automorphisms of the worldsheet operator algebra, in a modern context. It has been long known that at special points in the moduli space of torus compactifications, the target space gauge ...

The Gauge-String Duality and Heavy Ion Collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
I review at a non-technical level the use of the gauge-string duality to study aspects of heavy ion collisions, with special emphasis on the trailing string calculation of heavy quark energy loss.

Surveying the Three-Dimensional Fixed Points of T-Duality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We explore the family of fixed points of T-Duality transformations in three dimensions. For the simplest nontrivial self-duality conditions it is possible to show that, additionally to the spacelike isometry in which the T-Duality transformation is ...

S-duality in string gas cosmology [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2007
We consider a toy cosmological model in string theory involving the winding and momentum modes of (m,n) strings, i.e. bound states of m fundamental and n D-strings. The model is invariant under S-duality provided that m and n are interchanged. The dilaton is naturally stabilized due to S-duality invariance, which offers a new mechanism of moduli fixing

Polarized Deep Inelastic Scattering Off the Neutron From Gauge/String Duality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate deep inelastic scattering off the polarized 'neutron' using gauge/string duality. The 'neutron' corresponds to a supergravity mode of the neutral dilatino. Through introducing the Pauli interaction term into the action in AdS{sub 5} space,

Monopoles, Duality, and String Theory [PDF]

open access: greenInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2003
Dirac showed that the existence of magnetic monopoles would imply quantization of electric charge. I discuss the converse, and propose two 'principles of completeness' which I illustrate with various examples. Presented at the Dirac Centennial Symposium, Tallahassee, Dec. 6-7, 2002.

Duality and Canonical Transformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We present a brief review on the canonical transformation description of some duality symmetries in string and gauge theories. In particular, we consider abelian and non-abelian T-dualities in closed and open string theories as well as S-duality in ...

Open-string T-duality and applications to non-geometric backgrounds

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We revisit T-duality transformations for the open string via Buscher’s procedure and work-out technical details which have been missing so far in the literature.
