Role of structural analysis in floodway design process

open access: yes, 2019
Floodways are road infrastructure designed to be overtopped during flood events of relatively low average recurrence interval. When the floodwater recedes, floodways are expected to be fully functional.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Private analysis of graph structure [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the VLDB Endowment, 2011
We present efficient algorithms for releasing useful statistics about graph data while providing rigorous privacy guarantees. Our algorithms work on data sets that consist of relationships between individuals, such as social ties or email communication.

Design of FRP reinforced concrete beams for serviceability requirements

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2012
Serviceability Limit States (SLS) may govern the design of concrete elements internally reinforced with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bars because of the mechanical properties of FRP materials.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

DAMAGE ANALYSIS OF STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE BEAMS UNDER STATIC LOADS

open access: yes, 2020
This paper presents a study of the static behavior of steel-concrete composite beams with different types of damage. Since the behavior of a composite beam under load is governed by the shear connection, it is important to investigate the overall ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Structural Changes of Yellow Cameleon Domains Observed by Quantitative FRET Analysis and Polarized Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2008
Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) is a widely used method for monitoring interactions between or within biological macromolecules conjugated with suitable donor-acceptor pairs.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
