Fabrication and Actuation Performance of Selective Laser Melting Additive-Manufactured Active Shape-Memory Alloy Honeycomb Arrays

open access: yesActuators, 2022
Shape-memory alloy (SMA) honeycomb arrays have drawn worldwide attention for their potential active applications in smart morphing wings. However, the manufacturing of complex active SMA honeycomb arrays via conventional processes is a difficult task ...

A NEAT APPROACH TO STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the XI International Conference on Structural Dynamics, 2020
In the current paper, an application of the neuroevolution of augmenting topologies (NEAT) algorithm is considered in a structural health monitoring (SHM) application. The algorithm is a variation of genetic algorithms, applied in neural networks, and has the goal of optimising both the topology and the weights and biases of a neural network model. The

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Damage and ice detection on wind turbine rotor blades using a three-tier modular structural health monitoring framework

open access: yes, 2022
S.1289-1312The increasing number of installed wind turbines has led to a greater need for monitoring of their subcomponents. In particular, damages on rotor blades should be detected as early as possible, since they can cause long and hence expensive ...

Structural Health Monitoring of 2D Plane Structures

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This paper presents the application of the observability technique for the structural system identification of 2D models. Unlike previous applications of this method, unknown variables appear both in the numerator and the denominator of the stiffness matrix system, making the problem non-linear and impossible to solve.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The value of seismic structural health monitoring for road bridges

open access: yes, 2021
In the aftermath of seismic events, the availability of real time Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) information can support the selection of the most efficient emergency management plan.

Damage Identification in Hangers of Through-Arch Bridges Using Static Deflection Difference at the Anchorage Point

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This study proposes a new damage identification method for hangers of arch bridges using the static deflection difference at the anchorage point of the hanger and the tie-beam.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
