Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Potential of Self-Tempered Martensite and Bainite in Improving the Fatigue Strength of Thermomechanically Processed Steels [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
In contrast to a two-stage hardening and tempering process, the definition of optimized cooling routes after hot working of low-alloy Cr steel allows the adjustments of high-strength microstructures with a sufficient degree of ductility at the same time ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Flexible Additively Manufactured Honeycombs Under Impact Loading: Effect of Topology and Orientation

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering
Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of lightweight cellular lattices with tailorable mechanical behavior. This study examines the low-velocity impact response of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) honeycombs produced by fused filament ...

Targeting the Structural Maturation Pathway of HIV-1 Reverse Transcriptase

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2023
Formation of active HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) proceeds via a structural maturation process that involves subdomain rearrangements and formation of an asymmetric p66/p66′ homodimer.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Design and Verification of Multi-Mode Variable Camber Wing Trailing Edge

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
By changing the aerodynamic shape of the trailing edge of its wing, an aircraft can achieve lift and drag reduction during takeoff and landing and continuously achieve better aerodynamic efficiency while cruising, which plays an important role in the ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

An Efficient High-Frequency Design Methodology for APU Inlet Mufflers Based on Axial Segmentation and Optimal Frequency Selection

open access: yesAerospace
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) sets strict limits for aircraft ramp noise, a key source of which is Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) inlet noise.

Clustering of frequency spectrums from different bearing fault using principle component analysis

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
In studies associated with the defect in rolling element bearing, signal clustering are one of the popular approach taken in attempt to identify the type of defect.
