Structural Diversity of PDZ–Lipid Interactions
ChemBioChem, 2010AbstractPDZ domains are globular protein modules that are over‐and‐above appreciated for their interaction with short peptide motifs found in the cytosolic tail of membrane receptors, channels, and adhesion molecules. These domains predominate in scaffold molecules that control the assembly and the location of large signaling complexes.

Lipid Phases: Structure and Structural Transitions
Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 1974Lipids as a class encompass a large family of chemical compounds characterized by the presence in the same molecule of a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part linked together by bonds sufficiently flexible to yield a rather independent behav ior. In the examples mentioned in this review the hydrophobic moiety is formed by one or two hydrocarbon chains of

Structures of archaebacterial membrane lipids
Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1992Structural data on archaebacterial lipids is presented with emphasis on the ether lipids of the methanogens. These ether lipids normally account for 80-95% of the membrane lipids with the remaining 5-20% of neutral squalenes and other isoprenoids.

Structure andSynthesis of Lipid A
2009Lipid A is the lipophilic partial structure of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is a characteristic and essential component of the cell surface architecture of Gram negative bacteria. LPS constitutes the outer leaflet of the lipid bilayer of outer membrane which covers the outermost surface of bacterial cells.

Lipid exchange and transfer between biological lipid-protein structures
Progress in Lipid Research, 1978Abstract The dynamic state of membrane and lipoprotein lipids is all the more impressive when the complexity of lipoprotein and membrane structure is considered. For as long as such a ubiquitous and easily demonstrable process has been studied, the mechanism(s) of lipid exchange is still unknown. Is a direct contact between lipoproteins and membranes

Lipins, Lipids and Nuclear Envelope Structure
Traffic, 2009The lipid composition of biological membranes is crucial for many aspects of organelle function, including growth, signalling, and transport. Lipins represent a novel family of lipid phosphatases that dephosphorylate phosphatidic acid (PA) to produce diacylglycerol (DAG), and perform key functions in phospholipid and triacylglycerol biosynthesis and ...

Lipids are small hydrophobic or amphipathic molecules that may entirely or in part originate by carbanion-based condensations of thioesters and/or by carbocation-based condensations of isoprene units. Further lipids are classified along with prominent examples.

One of the most important general functions for lipids is their role as constituents of cellular membranes. These membranes not only separate cells from the external environment but also compartmentalize cells and provide a special milieu for many important biochemical processes.

Physical Structure and Behavior of Lipids and Lipid Enzymes
1963Publisher Summary This chapter describes the physical structure and behavior of lipids and lipid enzymes. The resolving power of the electron microscope and X-ray diffraction camera has required biologists to reconsider the physical and structural properties of lipids in the organization of a living cell.
