Detailed kinship estimation for detecting bias among breeding families in a reintroduced population of the endangered bagrid catfish Tachysurus ichikawai

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In the process of captive breeding and reintroduction of endangered animal species, it is crucial to minimize familial bias in reproductive success during the reintroduction phase to preserve genetic diversity. In this study, we attempted to identify the familial lineage of individuals of the endangered bagrid fish Tachysurus ichikawai born at the ...

Optimal SNP filtering strategies for pedigree reconstruction: A case study with wild red‐spotted masu salmon population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In this article, we tested optimal SNP filtering strategies for accurate parentage assignment and pedigree reconstruction for a wild population of red‐spotted masu salmon, Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae. We found that mid‐point filtering in terms of call rate and minor allele frequency performs well for pedigree reconstruction.

The effect of a formative assessment practice on student achievement in mathematics

open access: yesFrontiers in Education, 2023
Research has shown that formative assessment can enhance student learning. However, it is conceptualised and implemented in different ways, and its effects on student achievement vary.

The impact of small changes in thoroughfare connectivity on the potential for student walking [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Student active commuting to school is an important component to student achievement and student health, yet this form of physical activity has significantly declined in the U.S. Distance between the school and student residence is often reported as a barrier for student walking, thereby increasing street and trail connectivity between and within ...

Comparison of kinship‐identification methods for robust stock assessment using close‐kin mark–recapture data for Pacific bluefin tuna

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In this study, we compared three methods for kinship identification using different algorithms in samples of wild Pacific bluefin tuna and generated genotyping data. The three methods resulted in different numbers of inferred kinship pairs for both generated and actual data. Particularly for the half‐sibling pairs, considerable number of false‐positive

Dendritic cells steering antigen and leukocyte traffic in lymph nodes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dendritic cells are key players in the activation of T cells and their commitment to effector function. In this In a Nutshell Review, we will discuss how dendritic cells guide the trafficking of antigen and leukocytes in the lymph node, thus influencing T‐cell activation processes. Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in initiating and shaping the

Search for Better Students to Learn Distilled Knowledge [PDF]

open access: yes24th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), 2020, 2020
Knowledge Distillation, as a model compression technique, has received great attention. The knowledge of a well-performed teacher is distilled to a student with a small architecture. The architecture of the small student is often chosen to be similar to their teacher's, with fewer layers or fewer channels, or both. However, even with the same number of

Seminar Learning for Click-Level Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Annotation burden has become one of the biggest barriers to semantic segmentation. Approaches based on click-level annotations have therefore attracted increasing attention due to their superior trade-off between supervision and annotation cost. In this paper, we propose seminar learning, a new learning paradigm for semantic segmentation with click ...
