A Predictive Model of Student Satisfaction

open access: yesIrish Journal of Academic Practice, 2016
Retention is a challenge for all third level institutions and retention rates remain lower than colleges would like them to be. This has intensified in recent years as participation in higher education has increased and diversified.

DIT and Student Retention

open access: yes, 2003
The retention of students and the enhancement of their educational experience must serve as one of the core principles of any institution charged with fulfilling a national and international role in providing full-time and part-time programmes in higher education.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Relationship between Entry Grades and Attrition Trends in the Context of Higher Education: Implication for Open Innovation of Education Policy

open access: yesJournal of Open Innovation: Technology, Market and Complexity, 2020
Student retention has emerged as a significant and expensive challenge for higher education institutes worldwide. Although several studies have been conducted on increasing student numbers and diversity in higher education institutes, studies on the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Re-conceptualising attrition and retention: integrating thoretical, research and student perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
[Abstract]: Higher education is becoming increasingly pre-occupied by issues relating to student attrition and retention. There are active debates about the reasons for attrition and the effectiveness of retention models and strategies. These debates are

Considering student retention as a complex system: a possible way forward for enhancing student retention

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Engineering Education, 2014
This study uses multilayer minimum spanning tree analysis to develop a model for student retention from a complex system perspective, using data obtained from first-year engineering students at a l ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Book Review ~ Keeping Students in Higher Education: Successful practices and strategies for retention. Authors: D. Moxley, A. Najor-Durack and C. Dumbrigue

open access: yesInternational Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, 2002
I agree entirely with the authors’ notion of student retention that permeates this book, namely that: “Retention is not merely keeping students in higher education. It is also about helping each student develop as a successful student, navigating some of

The Role and Influence of Faculty as Predictors for Retention and Satisfaction Among Generation Z

open access: yesJournal on Empowering Teaching Excellence
While previous research has established that faculty and their interactions with students have had the greatest impact on student retention and satisfaction for centuries, limited studies have been done to understand how faculty are influencing ...
