Heat conduction in deformable Frenkel-Kontorova lattices: thermal conductivity and negative differential thermal resistance

open access: yes, 2011
Heat conduction through the Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) lattices is numerically investigated in the presence of a deformable substrate potential. It is found that the deformation of the substrate potential has a strong influence on heat conduction.

The emergence of quantum capacitance in epitaxial graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We found an intrinsic redistribution of charge arises between epitaxial graphene, which has intrinsically n-type doping, and an undoped substrate. In particular, we studied in detail epitaxial graphene layers thermally elaborated on C-terminated $4H ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Effect of Microcracks on the Corrosion Behaviour of Fe-based amorphous coatings in Chloride Solutions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2018
In this paper, the influence of microcracks on the corrosion behaviour of Fe-based amorphous coating on 304 stainless steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated. Results show that microcracks deteriorate the corrosion resistance.

Depinning of three-dimensional drops from wettability defects

open access: yes, 2008
Substrate defects crucially influence the onset of sliding drop motion under lateral driving. A finite force is necessary to overcome the pinning influence even of microscale heterogeneities.

Surface anchoring on liquid crystalline polymer brushes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present a Monte Carlo study of the surface anchoring of a nematic fluid on swollen layers of grafted liquid crystalline chain molecules. The liquid crystalline particles are modeled by soft repulsive ellipsoids, and the chains are made of the same ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Application of artificial neural networks and biosensors to determine concentrations of mixture

open access: yesLietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, 2014
Biosensor response, in case of multi-substrate mixture, has nonlinear dependence on substrate concentrations. This work investigates the possibility to approximate this dependency with artificial neural network.

Specific lid-base contacts in the 26s proteasome control the conformational switching required for substrate degradation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The 26S proteasome is essential for proteostasis and the regulation of vital processes through ATP-dependent degradation of ubiquitinated substrates. To accomplish the multi-step degradation process, the proteasomes regulatory particle, consisting of lid
