Three-phase contact line and line tension of electrolyte solutions in contact with charged substrates

open access: yes, 2015
The three-phase contact line formed by the intersection of a liquid-vapor interface of an electrolyte solution with a charged planar substrate is studied in terms of classical density functional theory applied to a lattice model.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Quantum dot size dependent influence of the substrate orientation on the electronic and optical properties of InAs/GaAs quantum dots

open access: yes, 2006
Using 3D k.p calculation including strain and piezoelectricity we predict variation of electronic and optical properties of InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) with the substrate orientation.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Modification of the titanium implants surface with TiO2 coatings obtained by sol-gel method via dip-coating

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Within the framework of the study, TiO2 coatings were obtained by sol-gel method via dip-coating. For the films obtaining, manual drawing the substrate from the solution at a relatively high rate of 30 mm / min and automated drawing from the solution at ...

The Influence of Laser Modification on a Composite Substrate and the Resistance of Thin Layers Created Using the PVD Process

open access: yesSensors, 2020
For physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology, cleaning a substrate is one of the key preliminary processes before depositing the metal layer. In this article, we present the results of research on the modification of a textile composite substrate using

Biohydrogen production from food waste: Influence of the inoculum-to-substrate ratio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this study, the influence of the inoculum-to-substrate ratio (ISR) on dark fermentative hydrogen production from food waste (FW) was evaluated. ISR values ranging from 0.05 to 0.25 g VSinoculum/g VSsubstrate were investigated by performing batch tests

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Surface Modification of a PCB Substrate for Better Adhesion of Inkjet Printed Circuit Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The robustness and service life of inkjet printed electronic circuit structures are highly influenced by the state of the interface between these structures and the substrate.
