An explainable machine learning model of cognitive decline derived from speech

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, 2023
INTRODUCTION Traditional Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) screening lacks the sensitivity and timeliness required to detect subtle indicators of cognitive decline.

Low thalamic activity during a digit-symbol substitution task is associated with symptoms of subjective cognitive decline

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2023
IntroductionSubjective cognitive decline (SCD) may represent the earliest preclinical stage of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) for some older adults. However, the underlying neurobiology of SCD is not completely understood.

Conventional clock drawing tests have low to moderate reliability and validity for detecting subtle cognitive impairments in community-dwelling older adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2023
BackgroundEarly identification of subtle cognitive decline in community-dwelling older adults is critical, as mild cognitive impairment contributes to disability and can be a precursor to dementia.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Location‐Specific Hematoma Volume Predicts Early Neurological Deterioration in Supratentorial ICH

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Early neurological deterioration (END) adversely affects outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study aimed to determine the location‐specific hematoma volumes for END in supratentorial ICH patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed supratentorial ICH patients presenting from two prospective cohorts.
