Sucrose octaacetate (SOA) is a United States National Formulary (NF) monograph compendial material (U.S. Pharmacopeia, 2008), and, as shown in Fig. 1, has eight acetate groups attached to a sucrose moiety. It is a natural product that has been extracted from the seeds of Annona cornifolia (Lima et al., 2011).

Data currently available indicate that high sucrose consumption does not contribute significantly to the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, or micronutrient deficiency. It may contribute, however, to dental caries formation by cariogenic bacteria.

Sucrose: Metabolite and signaling molecule
Phytochemistry, 2010Sucrose is a molecule that is synthesized only by oxygenic photosynthetic organisms. In plants, sucrose is synthesized in source tissues and then can be transported to sink tissues, where it is utilized or stored. Interestingly, sucrose is both a metabolite and a signaling molecule.

Isomerism of Sucrose and Iso-Sucrose
Nature, 1934ALTHOUGH an adequate constitutional formula for sucrose has been developed, attempts to verify this structure by synthesis have led to no success, the only crystalline product isolated being an isomeric disaccharide termed iso-sucrose. Presumably the isomerism resides in the α or β configurations of the glucose and fructose residues present in this ...

Sucrose-Isomaltose Malabsorption
1984In the beginning of this century diarrhea occurring in some children and adults was shown to be provoked, apparently, by carbohydrates in the food (Schmidt and Strasburger, 1901; Jacobi, 1901; Howland, 1921; Hurst and Knott, 1931). Fermentative dyspepsia, fermentative diarrhea, starch intolerance, intestinal carbohydrate dyspepsia, and intolerance of ...

Solubility of sucrose in technical sucrose solutions
Sugar Industry, 2011This paper deals with the results of research on the connection between sugarbeet molasses quality and saturation function. The saturation coefficients determined by the Polish test have been compared with the values calculated by means of the equations cited by Reinefeld et al. and Bohn et al.
