Deep learning‐based laser weed control compared to conventional herbicide application across three vegetable production systems

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 8, Page 4922-4936, August 2025.
In 2024, trials in New Jersey and New York evaluated the effectiveness of laser weeding with a Carbon Robotics unit compared with herbicides on beets, spinach, and peas. Results demonstrated that laser weeding was as effective or superior to herbicides in controlling weeds, reducing biomass by ≥97% and boosting crop growth by ≥30%.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus reshapes the rhizosphere microbiome of alfalfa in response to above‐ground attack by aphids and a fungal plant pathogen

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 8, Page 2149-2169, August 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plants assemble beneficial rhizosphere microbiomes through a ‘cry for help’ mechanism upon pathogen or insect herbivore attack.
