A rapid and sensitive extraction of sugars from papaya peels (Carica Papaya)

open access: yes, 2012
Papayas have been part of human diet for ages due to their health benefits. But consumption of these fruits generates outer skin wastes that may lead to environmental pollution.

Fructose‐Based Single‐Chain Polymer Nanoparticles for GLUT1–Mediated Delivery: Impact of Polymer Design on Uptake and In Vivo Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐chain nanoparticles have been proposed as drug delivery carriers, but adding a tail can significantly enhance their performance. This was demonstrated using a tadpole‐like structure comprising a head prepared from a UV‐crosslinked fructose‐based glycopolymer capable of targeting GLUT receptors, combined with a PEG‐based tail. Compared with other

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Amino Acids, Sugars and Inorganic Elements in the Sweet Almond (Prunus amygdalus L) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
A study of amino acids, sugars, and mineral elements is carried out with the sweet almond cultivated in Mallorca (Spain). Seventeen amino acids are determined by ion-exchange liquid-liquid chromatography.

Effects of nitrogen and sulfur fertilization on free amino acids, sugars, and acrylamide-forming potential in potato

open access: yes, 2013
Nitrogen (N) fertilizer is used routinely in potato (Solanum tuberosum) cultivation to maximize yield. However, it also affects sugar and free amino acid concentrations in potato tubers, and this has potential implications for food quality and safety ...

A minimal Bcl-x promoter is activated by Brn-3a and repressed by p53

open access: yes, 2001
The Brn-3a transcription factor stimulates the expression of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and Bcl-x proteins and protects neuronal cells from apoptosis. Here we show that a minimal Bcl-x promoter is activated by Brn-3a and that this stimulation is prevented ...

Electrically Readable Lateral Flow Assay Using Organic Transistors for Diagnostic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Electrolyte‐gated organic field‐effect transistors (EGOFETs) are integrated with lateral flow (LF) paper fluidics to create a reusable, portable, and low‐cost point‐of‐care (PoC) diagnostic test. The devices are validated for Human Immunoglobulin G detection, achieving high sensitivity (0.1 fm), selectivity, and reproducibility with rapid results in 20–
