Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine for uncomplicated falciparum malaria: Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine is not working in Malawi [PDF]
EDITOR—The paper by Plowe et al entitled “Sustained clinical efficacy of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine for uncomplicated falciparum malaria” might be better titled “Sustained lack of efficacy of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine….”1 By the start of the study period five years ago, molecular genotyping showed that Plasmodium falciparum in Malawi had already ...

Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine resistance in the rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium chabaudi
We have studied resistance to sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (S/P) in the rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium chabaudi. A stable S/P-resistant mutant, AS(50S/P), was selected by drug treatment of a clone, AS(PYR), already resistant to pyrimethamine.

A Molecular Surveillance System for Global Patterns of Drug Resistance in Imported Malaria
Analysis of imported malaria in travelers may represent a novel surveillance system for drug-resistant malaria. We analyzed consecutive falciparum malaria isolates from Canadian travelers from 1994 to 2000, for polymorphisms in pfcrt, dhfr, and dhps ...
